Located in Brackenridge Park on the bank of the San Antonio River, the Witte Museum has been a prominent educational destination since the late 1920s, focusing on the history, science, and culture of South Texas. Lake Flato Architects developed the master plan and designed new features including an entry court, lobby, museum store, and exhibit spaces. The project also involved the renovation of the Pioneer Museum and the addition of a new 350-car parking garage. Notable exhibit spaces include the South Texas Heritage Center, Texas Wild Gallery, and Water Resource Center, the latter featuring a wetlands area to educate patrons about water conservation. The construction was managed by Linbeck & Zachry Joint Venture, utilizing a custom aluminum system supplied by Kawneer, including the 1600 System 1, 10" Custom, and TriFab 450 CG. Vision glass types were fabricated by Cristacurva, incorporating 1/4" Clear SB70XL (2); 1/2" AS; 1/4" Clear - .060 PVB - 1/4" Clear, 1/4" Clear SB70XL; 1/2" AS; 1/4" Clear, and 1/4" Clear SB70XL; 1/2" AS; 1/8" Clear - .060 PVB - 1/8" Clear. The project was completed between November 2014 and March 2017, featuring a custom aluminum system as a special highlight.
